Low Testosterone
What Is Low Testosterone?
Low testosterone or "low T" levels result from the inability of the testes to produce adequate quantities of testosterone. As men age, testosterone production declines, but increasing obesity and metabolic conditions such as diabetes have also been linked to low testosterone levels in men. The development of low testosterone affects the whole-body system and causes many physiologic, chemical, and hormonal changes.

The Answers You Need
Who Can Have Low Testosterone?
Anyone at any age! Research shows that low testosterone affects almost 40% of men aged 45 and older, however, it is difficult to define a “normal” testosterone level because testosterone levels are affected by body mass index (BMI), nutrition, and alcohol consumption, etc.
What Are The Symptoms of Low Testosterone?
It's more than just sex! Symptoms of low testosterone can be decreased energy, inability to build muscle, mood changes, difficulty sleeping, weight gain, low libido and so much more.
How Do I Know If I Have Low Testosterone?
A simple blood test can determine if you have a low testosterone level. Our qualified team can check your testosterone level and other blood tests to determine if you have a low testosterone level and other underlying health conditions that could contribute to your symptoms.
Can insurance cover TRT?
Does insurance cover TRT? At Reform ABQ in Albuquerque, NM, many plans—like BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, and Medicare—cover testosterone therapy if labs confirm low levels (often <250). Coverage varies by:
-
Lab Results: Hypogonadism diagnosis required.
-
Medical Need: Provider-assessed necessity.
-
Plan Terms: Deductibles and benefits differ.
What should I expect from my first visit?
Reform ABQ requires that all initial visits are in-person. This allows you to meet our provider and have an in-person physical. We will draw your labs in-house during the initial visit if labs have not been drawn in the last 3 months. In total we like patients to plan for an hour visit time.
What labs will be drawn?
For initial lab draw our office draws: CMP, CBC, Estradiol, Total Testosterone, Sex Hormone Binding Globulin, FSH and LH. However, based on patient presentation and past medical history this could vary.
